The Innovation Growth Fund helps initiatives throughout the Lufthansa Group to get their ideas off the ground. In the style of the well-known German TV format "Die Höhle der Löwen," Lufthansa Group colleagues can pitch for funding with new and innovative ideas and gain access to a network of experts. The innovators describe their idea and submit a fictitious press release highlighting the benefits of the idea. Once invited to pitch, they outline the benefits, effort, timeframe and parameters they need to implement their idea. The jury, which consists of Lufthansa Group decision-makers, meets monthly and makes the decision directly after the pitch. In doing so, the jury takes into account the novelty of the approach, the skills of the team and the alignment with the strategic goals of the Lufthansa Group.
The Innovation Growth Fund gives us the opportunity to test ideas first in the context of a prototype, to learn, to iterate and then to scale them. We look for every opportunity to improve in the area of automation, sustainability or customer service. Compensaid, for example, which is now used as a compensation solution for the Lufthansa Group digital channels, was supported by the Innovation Growth Fund before the pandemic.
Uptrip has not only convinced thousands of customers, but also the jury of the Lufthansa Group's Innovation Growth Fund (IGF). The IGF funds projects enhancing passenger service, streamlining processes, and boosting sustainability. The IGF has thus provided Uptrip with the necessary financial support to further develop and grow the product.
A key milestone in achieving our "joining the dots" mission was the successful launch of the Data Accelerator Program (DAP). The Data Accelerator Program aims at implementing data-driven use cases in a fast, agile and high-quality manner and thus acts as "fuel" for data-driven problem solving throughout the Lufthansa Group. With the DAP, we provide support and data science expertise in the development of a data prototype by guiding through a structured process including a ideation-, prototype- and testing phase.
Since the start of the DAP in 2021, we already delivered 24 successful prototyping solutions across different airlines and subsidiaries within Lufthansa Group including Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Technik.
The Lufthansa Group Innovation Runway team supports promising innovations in the focus areas of operations, passenger and sustainability on their way to implementation by bringing together the right experts or providing funding.
