The future of efficient, customer-oriented and environmentally friendly airline catering

Food waste is a pressing global issue, and the aviation catering industry is no exception. Among the food discarded daily, a significant portion includes our untouched trays—an avoidable loss that demands action.

Enter the innovative Tray Tracker, developed by the Lufthansa Group and zeroG, a groundbreaking solution designed to make food waste measurable. Leveraging AI-powered technology, this mobile system automatically detects and analyzes the type and quantity of food waste with remarkable precision.

How It Works: The Tray Tracker is integrated into the dishwashing line of catering facilities worldwide. Positioned strategically, the system uses a camera to record incoming trays as video footage. These recordings are uploaded to the cloud every 15 minutes via a stable WIFI connection. The AI processes the data, categorizing trays into three levels: untouched, partially eaten, and fully eaten—with future updates promising even more granular insights based on GenerativeAI and Large Language Models.

Why It Matters: This cutting-edge solution delivers highly accurate (up to 97%) statistics and visual reports, offering actionable insights to optimize menu planning and significantly reduce food waste. The setup is simple and quick, requiring just a few adjustments to get started.

Let’s tackle food waste together—smarter and faster than ever—with the Tray Tracker!
