The Lufthansa Industry Solutions Robotics Lab provides various robot technologies, advises on suitable robots for specific applications, the appropriate setup for a PoC, and offers access to physical robot labs.

Lab Capabilities

Technologies

Nao Humanoid Robot

Nao is a 57 cm tall, autonomous and programmable humanoid robot widely used in research, education and healthcare applications. It can walk and interact with people in a more natural engaging way. It is equipped with a variety of sensors, including cameras, microphones and touch sensors as well as 25 degrees of freedom for movement and expressions.

In addition to the robots from the Lufthansa Industry Solutions Lab, further robots from the DLR School Labs cooperation in Bremen can be used to test an application.

Pepper Humanoid Robot

Pepper is a 120 cm tall, cute humanoid robot that has already been used in various areas, such as healthcare, education, hospitality, and retail. It is designed to interact with humans in a social and emotional manner, with the ability to recognize faces, gestures and tone of voice. It is a programmable robot that enables researchers and developers to customize its behaviors and capabilities for specific use cases.

TurtleBot2 “Burger”

The TurtleBot2 is a personal robot kit with open source software and is a platform for robotics education and research. The modular design allows users to program and customize the shape and capabilities of the robot. The Turtlebot is equipped with a Raspberry Pi4 as the main computer, which provides sufficient computing power for various tasks. It has sensors such as a 3D camera, a laser range finder and wheel encoders that enable it to perceive its environment and navigate autonomously.

Also in cooperation with Nordakademie in Hamburg different use cases can be tested.

Temi

Temi is a 1 m tall service robot with great navigation skills that recognizes its surroundings and saves them on a virtual map. The robot also has voice recognition and user interaction via its touch tablet. I can also transport small goods that fit on its tray. In cooperation with the Lufthansa FlyingLab, you can use this robot to test specific applications.

Methods

    PoC Consulting

We support the preparation and implementation of PoCs in the search for the right robot for a specific use case, potential partners (e.g. universities), clear hypotheses and success criteria.

    Environments

      Robotics Lab

The Lufthansa Industry Solutions robot laboratory in Norderstedt (near Hamburg) can be requested for PoC tests.
